Spreading ignorance
How do those with vested interests spread ignorance? Robert Proctor, a science historian from Stanford University, has dedicated his career to studying the communications practices of the tobacco industry and how it promulgates confusion about the health risks of smoking. His research led him to coin a term describing the deliberate spread of ignorance: agnotology.
